Hey there bloggies!

The 1st Round of the Aussie Open is in the books. Day 3 brings the Second Round of the Men’s and Women’s tournament. Let’s take a look at what’s matches have caught my eye for Day 3.

Peng vs. Bouchard

Genie Bouchard has shown glimpses of the form that launched her into the top ten and the Wimbledon final a few years ago. She’s had a great start to the season in the lead up tourneys and a solid 1st round win. Peng Shaui is not a player to take lightly and can handle Bouchard’s hard/flat ground strokes. This will be a battle of who can land their aggressive shots first and get the other on the run. For some reason, I’m thinking Bouchard finds a way through this one. I just don’t think Peng is match tough yet.

Evans vs. Cilic

Hold your hats tennis folks, there is another British male playing tennis well. Evans made the final of Sydney, beating top ten Thiem along the way (though if you read yesterday’s post…lots of people are beating Thiem atm). Cilic barely survived the crazy Janowicz storm in the 1st round, having to come back from 2 sets to love down. If Cilic is on, then this one is no contest. But if Evans can find a way to knock Cilic out of his rhythm and hustle, then I think he can grit this one out.

Riske vs. Zhang

Zhang was the feel good story of last year’s Aussie Open, having never winning a main draw match and then just casually making the quarters. Allie Riske is playing lights out tennis at the moment folks…and we aren’t even at on the grass courts. It’s cray cray y’all. She beat Aga in China last week (and people don’t beat Aga in Asia). Both put up solid wins in the 1st round, but I think Riske is riding some momentum now. I’m looking for her to pull the upset.

Johnson vs Wawrinka

I have no idea why I really have this one circled. Stan should most definitely wipe the floor with Stevie J. But Stan did get pushed to five sets in his opener and Stevie Johnson did play well in the warm-up tourney. Johnson will hustle and hustle and hustle. And Stan will have a mini-hiccup in the 3rd set, but will find a way to win in 4.

Those are the matches I’ll be checking out. How about you guys? Let me know in the comments below or on twitter!

Enjoy the tennis!
