Hello there bloggies! Welcome to a special edition of Wishful Wednesday!

If you are a regular reader of the blog, you may have noticed that there was no Science Sunday or Trainee Tuesday this week. As I mentioned on Twitter, I decided to take a little break from the blog this week to recharge my blogging batteries. Don’t fret though! I’ll be back and blogging on Sunday. Even though I’m taking a blog vacation this week, I wanted to post a special book writing update because something exciting just happened.

Firstly, I finished the latest edit of my book The Collective. It had taken me a little less than a month to get through this last edit. I tried to focus on the flow of the writing as well as some verb tense issues that bothered me. Way too much passive voice that I wanted to get rid of. I’m pretty happen with the current state of the manuscript.

But more excitingly, I finally summoned the confidence and ambition to submit query letters and samples from The Collective to literary agents. The last few weeks I’ve done my research and reading on the process and agencies themselves. I’ve tried to put my dear novel in the best position to get hopefully read by a couple agents and maybe even published some day. Back in November 2014, I never really thought I would find myself in the position to send actual queries to real literary agents. I even had doubts I had the commitment and skill to finish the book draft. Now that it is here, I’m so incredibly excited and enthusiastic. This is so much fun! Even with all of the waiting and certain rejection!

Who knows what’s going to happen? I’ve received my first rejection, something I expect to repeated over and over and over again. Fortunately, this sort of rejection is a common occurrence in my day job as a scientist. I’ve written and published over a dozen scientific manuscripts and almost all of them were rejected by journals before finding a home. Using that experience, I’m going to keep a positive frame of mind as I keep shopping my lovely novel around.

Before moving on from The Collective, have you checked out the sample of The Collective posted on this blog? No? Take a few minutes and read it over here. Leave a comment or vote in the poll to let me know what you think.

With this last edit of The Collective finished, I now have time to focus on finished the first draft of my next novel Deluded. I’ve written about 55,000 words with just 4-5 chapters left to go. I’m riding some momentum from the thrill of submitting The Collective and hoping to ride it these next few weeks to the end. I just finished a really fun high school graduation scene that I found an incredibly cathartic experience to write. I toyed with posting the first chapter of Deluded on the blog today. But, I decided to wait until I had the first draft finished and was able to edit it thoroughly. Hopefully, I’ll have a sample of Deluded in one of the next bi-weekly book updates.

Thank you for stopping by this special book update here on Wishful Wednesday! Do you have any tips for submitting book agent queries or thoughts on the sample of The Collective? Let me know in the comments below or on twitter @DrFsThoughts. The excitement is real you all! I need to stop checking my email every 5 minutes! I will keep you all posted with my progress!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
