Hello there bloggies! It’s Wishful Wednesday and you know what that means. It’s time for a biweekly book update!

Before we get to serious business, let’s start with the second book I’m working on Deluded. I’m closing in on the end of the first draft. With some of the plane rides and airport time, I’ve made it to Chapter 18 and written around 53,000 words. I have less than 5 chapters to write before the first draft is completed. Deluded is far more character driven than The Collective, and these last few chapters should be really fun to write. Now that the summer is winding down, I am hoping to have more time to devote to writing. My goal is to have this draft finished by the end of September. Hopefully, I’ll be able to post a sample chapter from Deluded in the next couple of months. I just want to make sure I get at least one edit done beforehand.

Now, I want to move into more serious business, and it all has to do with the first book I’ve been working on since November, The Collective. The Collective has undergone a few rounds of edits and been read by about 10 friends/family members. I am reaching the point where I think it is ready to put The Collective out there.

After one more quick read through, I want to start sending it out to book agents and publishers. I have my book synopsis and query letter drafted. The one difficulty I am encountering is that I have no idea which agents and publishers to send these materials. Do I send them out one at a time? A handful? Or to a whole lot at once and see what happens? I will likely go with something in the middle, sending out the materials to a few at a time and see how that goes. If you have any suggestions or thoughts, let me know in the comments below or by email drfsrandomthoughts@gmail.com.

I’m quite eager to get The Collective out there. Not that I think this manuscript will necessarily be published (though that would be really really cool!), but it would be fantastic to get some objective feedback on my novel and my writing skills. While the feedback I’ve gotten back so far has been encouraging, it is hard to take friends’ and family’s opinions seriously. Opinions from professionals in the industry will be more revealing and informative.

But, what is The Collective about? The Collective is a young adult, dystopian novel that follows the journey of hardworking, yet incredibly naïve Aaron from his small hometown of Glendale to the mighty Capitol. Suddenly, Aaron is thrown into a complex political and familial struggle where his loyalties to everyone and everything he has every known are tested. Faced with impossible decisions regarding the health/safety of his family and the people of the Collective, Aaron must navigate his way between competing factions.
