Hello there bloggies! Welcome to Wishful Wednesday! And also welcome to blog post number 100!
I’m incredibly happy and proud that I’ve stuck with this silly blog idea for 100 posts without missing a single one of my themed posts. Let’s take this chance to take a quick peek at some of the themes and reflections of the past 100 posts.
My Future Career
I started this blog as a way to document and explore my possible career avenues during the first year of my postdoc. During this time, I have decided that I no longer wanted to be an academic PI. It is a bit unnerving, but a completely freeing feeling to make this decision.
Though, I now need to figure out what I want from my future career. Is it in science writing or science communication? Maybe I’ll stay in analysis but in a different setting? Do I even want to stay in science? These are all questions I still need to answer and will be documenting here on the blog.
Writing a Book
I think the most progress I’ve made during this time on the blog is in the book-writing department. I’ve finished a draft and am almost done with the second edit of my first novel. Not only that, but I’ve started sharing this book with some of my friends and family.
Next on the agenda are two things. First, I want to keep pushing this first book forward. I plan on giving it to the most honest reader I know: my mum. I also want to start exploring how to get my work out there, maybe even to agents and publishers. Second, I want to get back to working on my second book. This second book is much more personal, and I miss working on it. Stay tuned for more biweekly book updates!
Travelling and Baking
Two recent themes of my life and consequently the blog have been travelling and baking. In fact, at the moment, I am currently on my way home from Toronto, Canada. I have more trips to Newport, Maine, Sweden, Denmark, and the Cape this summer with hopefully more trips sprinkled in this fall and winter. Stay tuned for pictures and highlights on Wishful Wednesday.
I’ve also been on a baking kick recently thanks to The Great British Bake-Off. I am now developing a list of new bakes I want to try in the next months. My ultimate goal though is to make a Croquembouche for Christmas! I’ll be sure to post pictures here and on twitter throughout.
Now with all of that travelling and baking along with the stress of book writing and figuring out my career, I will need to stay on track with my fitness and nutrition. Although I’m not running a half-marathon like last year, I will be keeping up with my running and my other workouts. Plus, I am playing far more sports this year than last thanks to my regular tennis. I’ll be discussing my fitness highs and lows on Fitness Friday.
Of course, as this is my 100th blog post, I need to discuss the blog itself. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed writing these little blog posts and hope you all have found a few posts to enjoy. I’ve had over 1000 views in the past 6 months, which is a number I never thought I would reach and is incredibly exciting. Personally, my favorite posts tend to be on Trainee Tuesday and Wishful Wednesday. That’s probably because I most relate to those posts. I hope to continue developing my writing skills here and making this a more discussion-based forum for everyone.
