Hello there bloggies! It’s Wishful Wednesday, and you know what that means. Biweekly book update! Please try to set that to Grace Helbig’s old Sexy Friday song <ding>. Yay, random Grace Helbig mention!
This weekend I got the first comments on the first draft of book number one. The first thing I realized is that there are quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes throughout the draft. I will need to devote some time to picking out those embarrassing blemishes.
The rest of the comments were really encouraging though. I think that could be something that I need at the moment, a little ego boosting. The reader was conflicted in knowing who trust, which is exactly what I was hoping to make the reader feel. I wanted the reader to be just conflicted as the main character. It’s really cool and satisfying to have a bit of reassurance that I may have accomplished that. Something I was not expecting was that my imagery and descriptions were good. Coming from a “drier” scientific writing background, I was expecting to be a bit deficient in that. But who knows?
Before getting back to editing and revising that manuscript, I do want to wait for a few more people’s comments. Though, I suppose that will also be influenced by how patient I am with their progress. But, I do have the other manuscript to take up my attention.
Speaking of the other book! Awesome segue way there Dr. F! Writing is going forward there. I am on the 10th chapter and about 29,000 words in. I’m still finding it to be quite the cathartic and enjoyable experience. However, I am running into a bit of a problem. It is getting harder and harder to find time to write! With the fantastic spring weather, there are more and more family/social/work things to take care of. The one benefit of this awful winter was that I was often stuck in my apartment. It was perfect for writing! But, now I am seeing my time devoted to writing become less and less.
The good news is that I am aware of it. I will need to specifically schedule time for writing, just like I did with my dissertation. Plus, I have some trips coming up in the next few months (Toronto, Denmark, Sweden, Maine, Cape Cod, etc.). Travel time is perfect for writing.
Thank you all for stopping by another book update on this Wishful Wednesday! How do you make time for important hobbies or tasks like writing? Comment below or on twitter @DrFsThoughts.
See you all later!
