If you have been following along with some of my recent posts, you may remember I went on my first trip of the year this past weekend. I went to lovely Washington DC. Weather cut my visit a little short, but I still had a great visit seeing some friends in the area and had a very productive meeting.
Travel though has thrown me off this whole week though. The part of my life that probably has been thrown off most is my fitness routine. Since my trip was so short, I didn’t have a chance to go for a run or do a simple circuit workout while in DC. That was fine this time. I was due for a rest day or two. But, in longer trips I’ve taken, I just can never find the motivation to go to the hotel gym, do a bodyweight-based circuit workout in the hotel room, or even just simply run outside.
What was even weirder about this trip though was the crazy lack of motivation to workout when I got home. I have had to use every mind trick to get my lazy ass up and do my workouts. I tried to ease into it with a less cardio intensive lifting workout on Tuesday. I did that fine, but the prospect of doing Month 2 Insanity workouts these past nights has been daunting to say the least. But, I dragged myself through them (though I’m pretty sure my performance was crap).
As I hopefully take more trips this year, I need to make a point of finding ways to continue the fitness regime before, during, and after the trip. During the trip, I’m not thinking I need to be perfect or do the most intense exercises. I just need to do something.
