Hello there bloggies! Welcome to this week’s Wishful Wednesday and another biweekly book update!

Last week, I finished the first draft of the book!! I honestly couldn’t believe it. When I started this nonsense back in November right before Thanksgiving, I didn’t think I would actually finish a draft. I thought I would give it a go for a month or so and eventually get bored with it. For once, I showed discipline in working on this manuscript almost everyday (even if it was just 20-30 minutes) and reached the end.

With the completion of the draft though comes the prospect of revising and revising and then revising some more. The first draft definitely has some continuity issues. I also chose to emphasize and deemphasize certain characters and points later in the novel that I didn’t plan to at the beginning. Those need to be made a bit more consistent.

I’ve been doing the first round of revision for about the last week and a half. There have been some days of bad weather and a fair bit of time in the airport and on flights. Manuscript revisions are pretty perfect for those times. I’ve gotten through revising over half of the book. I have quite a bit of momentum. I’m thinking I could hopefully finish this first revision in the next week or so.

The question now is what to do after the first revision. I am going to need keep on going through many versions of the book and revising the text. I’m starting to think that it might be a good idea to start getting some feedback. Is it readable? Is it enjoyable? Do things make sense?

I can only evaluate these things to a certain degree. At some point, I am going to need to share what I have so far with others and see what they think. The plan at the moment is to print out a couple copies of the next version. I think it will be helpful and revise myself with a hardcopy of the text as opposed to just on the computer.

I also think I’m going to ask some of my friends and family to read it over quickly just to get their thoughts on the story and how it’s been crafted. I’ve read that you shouldn’t ask friends and family to read and comment on your drafts. But, I don’t think I’m ready to share this with strangers yet. I don’t even know if I’m ready to share with my family and friends. I think I need to though and hope for some honest feedback. Feedback is going to be so helpful.

Thank you all for stopping by this book update on Wishful Wednesday. Any thoughts on how I should move forward revising and getting feedback? Any resources would be helpful! Comment below or on twitter @DrFsThoughts.

Talk to you all soon!
