Hello there bloggies! Trying out a name for people who find their way here and are reading this.
Welcome back to Wishful Wednesday! This week I want to discuss my goal to head back to Denmark. Many will think Denmark is random (and cold!), but this tiny nation holds just an important place in my heart.
Back in 2008 in my 3rd year of college, I did a semester abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark through DIS (www.dis.dk). If you are in college at the moment, I highly suggest checking it out. I simply fell in love with Denmark (minus the high cost of living and perhaps the winter weather…).
To put it shortly, it was simply one of most important parts of my life. While studying there, I learned how to be more independent, how to take risks, how to speak for myself, how to interact with people from other cultures, that I didn’t want to be a MD doctor when I grew up, among other things. I cannot imagine what I would be like or what I would be doing with my life if I had never gone to this little Nordic country.
I have not had the chance to go back to Denmark since I left in May 2008. I was fortunate enough to go to Europe one time since then. In grad school, we collaborated with the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom. I was fortunate enough to visit Bristol for 3 weeks, plus a cheeky week of vacation in London (during the Golden Jubilee!). It was such a thrill to go to the UK to work and visit. It was almost like a taste of my experience in Denmark.
For the last few years, I have toyed with planning a trip back to Denmark. I always find an excuse not to go. It costs too much. There is too much going on at work. I can’t find anyone to go with me. I let these get in the way. Seeing the country again is worth it to me. With enough saving and planning, I know I can make a trip happen this year.
I think what I also want to re-capture with this trip to Denmark is my spirit of adventure and risk taking. My inclination is to take a more conservative approach to life and to follow a routine. It can be helpful for some things (e.g. fitness), but I do not necessarily think it is great for all aspects of my life. I need to make myself uncomfortable and try new things again. I have done it before, and can’t wait to get back into the habit again.
I have added some pictures from my time in Denmark! Such fun flipping through my collection of pictures and being nostalgic!

PS An update from last Wednesday post. Word count is now past 60,000 words! Getting there!
